♪ Every year, we have girls that graduate our team and head out into the world to pursue their dreams. But how do we bring in fresh blood to replace those who have left our team? One of the awesomest ways we recruit girls that are excited about STEM is through our… (trumpets!) Summer Camp!! Summer Camp is a weekend overnighter where we shrink the entire FTC season into the course of 3 days (Friday through Sunday afternoon), including designing the robot, building it, and of course, (my favorite part) a mini COMPETITION! We go over nearly every nook and cranny of the competition season, such as team spirit (decorating your pit area with your team color) and programming teleop/autonomous. And just like every Girl Scout Summer Camp, we have lots of fun; movies, s’mores, spooky stories over the campfire, and even Ultimate Hide and Go Seek!
♬ We do just about everything at this camp for girls who want to get a taste of the FIRST Tech Challenge. Every girl who attends will leave our camp with a sense of achievement and possibly as a new member of the Rock n’ Roll Robots! What makes our camp really special is that our team members teach and run the camp, with little help from the mentors. So the girls are learning from other girls who are their age. This camp has been a huge success for us in the past few years, both in raising money and recruiting girls who now know the basics of FTC. We really hope you join us this August!
When? Friday, August 3rd - Sunday, August 5th (so don't forget your sleeping bag!)
